Yes There Is Time For You

Self care, what is it all about? Well, it’s all about you. Now doesn’t that sound great! It should.

It’s about making time for you and ensuring that your physical and mental self are restored. When we are feeling low, unhappy, tired, depleted, lonely, isolated to name a few feelings. We need to fill up our reserves, or we will crash. Not to mention, when we are low on our own reserves, we really can’t expect ourselves to be available to others or perform at our best.

By ensuring we have built in time for ourselves each day, we can avoid the crash. I am not going to tell you how much time per day you need to spend on this, that is completely based on your needs and availability. What I am going to ask, is that you try to create a bit of space each day for yourself and I can guarantee even if it’s 5 minutes, it will make a difference.

The only rule is you must make sure it is something you love to do. It must be something that brings you joy, fills you up and restores you. Otherwise you will not sustain it.

Some self care tips

  • Make a “play list” write down things that you like to do for fun.

  • Create a self care plan for the week.

  • Try a new activity from your play list each week.

  • Tell people about your self care plan.

  • Create space in your existing routine. It is easier to start something when you’re not trying to fit it in to your schedule.

  • Switch it up, if you have been doing self care but it is feeling more like a chore. Go back and review your play list, add something new into the mix.

Self care does not mean doing things alone and it does not mean you have to do things with others. It means choosing what you want to do, to restore your physical and mental self. The best part, you already know what you need, you just have to start.
