Winter Blahs

Shorter days, darker mornings, are all part of the winter blahs. This time of year, can sometimes cause us to want to seek out comforts in our life, like sleeping longer, indulging in food or spending more time inside than out, and maybe even seeing people less. Add COVID-19 to the mix, and in some ways, it has enabled our behaviours during this time.

So, what can you do to make sure your mental health is not impacted? Be aware of your behaviours, pay attention to the time you are spending on these comforts and try to indulge in some activities that will serve you better.

For example

Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day.

Make sure you are getting proper rest and taking breaks in your day.

Eat healthy snacks and balanced meals with food that give you energy and drink lots of water.

Get outside, when you can even if it is just for 10-15minutes, to breath in fresh air and see daylight.

Instead of surfing the web or being on your phone mindlessly, get up from your workspace and stretch.

Take your medication, each day.

Connect with family or friends daily.

Make a doctor’s appointment to check in, especially if your mood is getting low and your behaviours are impacting your ability to function.
