Nina Halstead
Psychotherapist Qualifying #12991 Working Counsellor: In Person & Online Sessions
Hi, I’m Nina.
If you're struggling to cope with your trauma and don't know what to do, I'm here to help. We all respond to trauma differently, which can sometimes make us question whether what we're experiencing is "normal" or ok. Symptoms can be scary and confusing, and they can affect all areas of our lives, including self-esteem, relationships, mood, and more. I'm here to help you identify how trauma is showing up in your life, and what to you can do about it. My aim is to do that by helping you understand how trauma affects your brain and body, supporting you in processing your experiences, and building up your healthy coping skills. When you’re in session with me, I want you to feel safe, heard, and understood. I've been described as a very relaxed, calm, and validating therapist, so if that's what you're looking for, let's get in touch.
I work with folks from all walks of life, and I've got experience working with medical traumas, relational traumas, survivors of childhood and adult sexual violence, corrections employees, new Canadians, trans people, and more. I have 7 years’ experience working in mental health within forensic, nonprofit and private practice spaces.
I love working with first responders and queer (2SLGBTQIA+) folks on the unique issues that impact them. Being a part of both those groups myself, I bring my own experience and knowledge of these complex and nuanced identities to my work.
On the technical end of things, I use an eclectic approach that draws from psychodynamic therapy, narrative therapy, DBT, CBT, CPT and SFBT to create a bespoke treatment that fits your unique needs. I function from a trauma-informed and feminist lens, meaning that you're always in the driver's seat and we'll take things at your pace.
Outside of work, I love to spend time in the woods foraging for wild plants and mushrooms, or fighting fires with Loyalist Township Emergency Services.
