Peeling Back The Layers…

Riding home last night, it was one of those perfect pre-summer nights. A fresh chill in the air and a beautiful silhouette on the mountains. I started to think about life, and as silly as this may sound, I was thinking how the seasons and what we do to prepare for them are a lot like life. For instance, riding home, I no longer wear booties on my bike shoes to keep my feet warm, I no longer wear a fleece over my long sleeve and under my jacket. I felt lighter riding, less weight, less bulk. This is much like our journey in life, it is always changing, sometimes we need layers to protect us, it makes us feel comfortable. Other times, we like to peal them back or shed the layers. By doing this, we allow ourselves to feel the elements and absorb their meaning.

It is important to peal back the layers every now and then, to peek and see what you have done, accomplished, learned about yourself. It is a chance to reflect on your journey and see what or who is serving you and maybe what is not. Just as you declutter your home or change over your wardrobe for the season. Take some time and do the same for your physical and mental wellbeing.

Reminder, be kind and compassionate with yourself as you peel back the layers…they are yours, they are beautiful and they got you to this moment.
